Tin
Jug Studio first opened in November 2ooo with a
superb exhibition of paintings, photography &
sculpture called, OThe Presence of Light.
Offaly¹s little Ogallery in-a-garden has
been welcoming established & new artists from
within the region, (and those with connections to
the area!), ever since. The gallery opens for solo
exhibitions and traditionally, for a group
exhibition during Vintage Week. |

|
Tin Jug
Studio presently exhibits the work of talented
local artists. This currently includes paintings
by Christopher O'Donoghue, Jock Nichol, Jennie
Boelens; woodblock prints by Jackie Lynch and
Caroline Conway; photography by Jackie Lynch,
Rosalind Fanning, Stephanie Newton and Eoghan
O'Malley; and woodcarvings by Derek Fanning (which
are sold in aid of Birdwatch Ireland, and other
charities.)

The
art studio is part of the home of Derek and
Rosalind Fanning. In former years, it had been a
coach house and offices, and used for turf storage
before being restored by the Fannings. It was
named Tin Jug after the
battered tin jug still hanging upstairs after all
the restoration work. The gallery/studio has been
open seasonally and by invitation since then but
as an experiment, between September and Christmas,
2007, Tin Jug Studio has opened each Saturday from
2-5 |
| pm.
A changing representation in varied mediums by
working local artists, shows the high standards of
creativity in the 'boggy' Midlands. (Please
enquire about opening times as Saturday openings,
except for 'Chocolate Saturdays', are likely to
discontinue in January. Tel: 05791 21818 / 087 668
1783) |
|

|
| The
gallery is an adaptable space for different forms
of art, from visual to installation: artists may
arrange to rent the gallery for their own
exhibitions, (please enquire about details,
dimensions and fee options). The shelving,
'fireplace' and a certain amount of the furniture
can be removed to give clear, stone walls and the
stair screen can also be adapted or removed. There
are also options for film/DVD viewings. |
 |
| During
Seachtain na Gaeilge , screenings of short films
in Irish take place in March. This is one of the
events during the year at Tin Jug Studio under 'Portach';
our promotion of 'soft' Irish in the Midlands -
language events and gatherings to encourage
learners and others to speak As Gaeilge ! |

Art
tuition, and art classes for all ages are held in
the bright, cosy & bohemian studio upstairs.
These are mostly in the afternoons and evenings,
but some art/craft workshops for children, and
tuition for adult 'total
beginners' are held in the morning. Class sizes
are small, so there is plenty of individual
attention. We play a gentle, eclectic mix of music
for a soothing & inspiring atmosphere and
refreshments are always on hand. |
The
scale of the space, gives children a sense of
comfort and they are not confined to 'classroom'
positions at desks, but may find their own
creative corners, or around the big table, set out
on Wednesday afternoons for 'Kidzart'. Bernie
Stapleton and Rosalind Fanning have enjoyed
teaching
children for some years, individually and
collaboratively. Parents of children new to
classes, may sit upon the sofa to make sure their
children are content. |
|

|
There
are good display walls upstairs too, and some of
the furniture can be moved and adapted for various
functions.
It is also possible to rent the studio for short
stays, both self-catering and semi-B&B.
Artists may use the studio for working and
sleeping in the self-contained studio, with neat
kitchen and shower-room facilities. Whilst it is
set up more comfortably for single occupancy, the
platforms can be |
 |
| arranged
for two. Those who have stayed have enjoyed the
quiet privacy and pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.
