Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) is a mentoring programme
that matches a young person (10-18 years) to an adult
volunteer (18+). The core idea of BBBS programme is that
a caring and supportive friendship will develop between
the young person and adult volunteer. The Volunteer Big
Brother/Sister spends 1 to 2 hours per week with their
'little brother/sister', and commits to being matched
for a year. Together they can decide what activities
they would like to do, whether it is shopping, watching
a football match, or even just having a coffee and a
chat. It is through these activities that a friendship
is formed, and within this friendship the young person
and their adult friend can learn new skills and enhance
existing ones, whilst enjoying themselves in the
process.
